NIGERIA INTERNATIONAL forward Shola Ameobi is over the moon after
scoring his first ever goal for his country.
The Newcastle front man found the net during last night’s clash
against Burkina Faso that the Super Eagles won 4-1.
He told BBC Sport: “I have finally scored and I am very happy
with the goal.
“It took a while but the moment I got the ball, I managed to lose
my marker and put it into the bottom corner.
“I've wanted it to go like that for a long time and for it to have
gone like that was a dream come true.”
Ameobi, a former England youth international, made his Nigeria
debut last November and has so far garnered four caps for the West Africans.
The striker, who speaks with a strong Geordie accent, added:
“Obviously, if you look down the things in your career that you want to do,
it's to score an international goal.
“Hopefully, this will be the first of many to come. I hope to get
another chance to make a significant contribution as well.
“This important first one I would love to dedicate it to the team,
the fans and my family.”
Nigeria had already secured top spot in their qualifying group for
the World Cup and will now go into the final play-off draw featuring the 10
group winners.
