Rivers State University expels 588 students over poor performance

No fewer than 588 students have been expelled from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology over poor academic performance.
The institution Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barineme Fakae, disclosed this during the institution’s 32nd matriculation in Port Harcourt, the state capital on Wednesday.
According to Fakae, students who could not get the required grade in their class work, were advised to leave RSUST at the end of the 2012/2013 Academic Session.

He charged the Senate of the university to sanction any erring student, warning the new students to observe zero tolerance for examination malpractices and other social vices.
“Inculcate the habit of using the library and ensure that you attend lectures at all times, as absenteeism may result in failure and consequently lead to withdrawal from the institution, Fakae said.
“For your information, at the end of last session (2012/2013), five hundred and eighty-eight (588) students were asked to withdraw due to academic failure.
“We (RSUST) do not compromise standards because our vision and values must continue to be held in high esteem.”
The VC further congratulated the new intakes on their success in the Joint Admission Matriculation Board and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination exams.
