Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is used to describe motor neurone diseases which affects a person’s ability to move voluntarily, stops people eating, walking and talking, The ice bucket challenge started after a baseball player with MND, Pete Frates, volunteered to have it done to him.

Its gone viral with celebrities pouring freezing ice water on themselves and nominating three others .The whole idea is to raise money and so far,over $21million has been raised.

The heartbroken mother of Patrick Sawyer and Nyennetue, Georgie Nah who both died from Ebola in the space of weeks spoke to NBC10. She said:

“I can’t stand it,I can’t sleep. Every day I think about them.I didn’t even know she was sick,“My children were good children”
Nyuennyue died July 7 one day after her brother visited her. But hospital officials did not test the woman for Ebola until after her death meaning her brother had no way of knowing he was exposed to the virus.

Nyennetue was buried in Liberia. But more than two weeks after Sawyer’s death on July 21, his family is still working to have his ashes returned to the states.

Herbert Olayinka Samuel Heelas Badmus Macaulay, had a daughter, Sarah Idowu Abigail, who would get married and give birth to a son, Babatunde Kwaku Adadevoh. Babatunde would grow up to become a doctor, and have kids of his own. One of these children, Stella Ameyo, became, like her father, a doctor.
She would go on to work at a hospital in Obalende, Lagos, First Consultant Hospital, not very far from where her famous ancestor was once imprisoned by the British. It was to be at that that place of work that Stella Ameyo was to perform an act that would save the lives of possibly hundreds of thousands, and sacrifice her own in return.

Actor Jackie Chan has expressed his shock and heartbreak over the recent arrest of his 31 year old son, Jaycee Chan, who was picked up & detained last Thursday after 100 grams of marijuana was discovered at his home. Police said Jaycee and another man found in his home, Taiwanese movie star Kai Ko, 23, tested positive for marijuana and admitted using the drug.

Jackie, who was made an anti-drug ambassador in China in 2009, took to his website today to express his sadness over his son's behaviour and apologized to the public

Actress Omotola Okudero-Jagua has been delivered of a bouncing baby boy in Lagos. Omotola, the daughter of late comedian Afolabi Afolayan, better known as Jagua was delivered of the baby in a private hospital in Lagos. The actress and movie producer got married to her heartthrob, Arch. Olabode Okudero in a lavish wedding at the Chapel of St. Luke Presbyterian Church in Ikeja on Saturday, February 2nd, 2013.

It could be recalled that the bride’s father, late Afolabi Afolayan (Jagua), died over ten years ago and his wife, Elyzer Afolabi Afolayan, also died in 2011. Omotola who is also a movie producer has forged ahead alongside some of her siblings in the movie industry.

Finally light at the end of the tunnel. The first Ebola patient to be confrimed positive has been discharged in Lagos.
The Minster of Health Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu confirmed this saying the patient ,a female doctor now tested negetive .He however did not reveal her name.He also said five of those undergoing treatment have almost recovered.

It is been confirmed to be Doctor Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, a consultant and Endocrinologist at First Consultant Hospital,Lagos.She was the first to test positive after coming in contact with Sawyer..

  He also said Nanosilver (the drug which was to be used on Ebola Patients)failed to pass the ethical test, will not be used.

Ebola: Two more Nigerians die after Excessive Consumption of Salt & bathing with It

Dr Joseph Kumba, Director, Public Health in the Ministry of Health and Human Services confirmed the report.
“We got the report at a meeting today (Wednesday 13th August) that two persons died at Ushakaa clinic as a result of drinking and bathing with hot salted water.” he said.
The Medical Director of Ushakaa Hospital Dr Innocent Gbillah said it was a male and a female.
Gbillah did not disclose the names of the deceased but said they were admitted into the hospital on Saturday.
“We did everything possible to help the victims but to no avail. One of them died on Tuesday at 7 pm while the other gave up the ghost at 5 am Wednesday (yesterday).” he said.

If You recall,less than a week ago, two people died while twenty were hospitalised after excessive consumption of salt in Jos.

US finally gives Nigeria Ebola Cure... But.......

The Ebola drug given to two Americans and a Spanish priest has been sent to treat infected doctors in two West African countries, and the supply of the medicine is now gone, its manufacturer said.

Countries including Nigeria and Liberia had requested the drug, called ZMapp. Mapp Biopharmaceutical Inc., based in San Diego, said it has complied with every request for the drug that was authorized by legal and regulatory authorities. The drug was provided at no cost, according to Mapp.

“It is our understanding that all patients offered treatment, treated, or expected to be treated were or are highly capable of providing informed consent for the use of an experimental drug not yet evaluated for safety in animals or people,” the company said yesterday in a statement.

The National Hunters’ Association of Nigeria (NHAN) has accused the Goodluck Jonathan government of using the Ebola virus outbreak to harm its business.
The group said things have been hard for its members, ever since the government told Nigerians to by stop eating bush meats, monkeys and bats, animals which are believed to be carriers of Ebola.
While addressing journalists in Lagos on Tuesday, 12 August, the association made a statement saying that they are gradually loosing their main source of livelihood.
Chief Ishola Olasehinde, the president of the group, said the directive is unfair to hunters who help in safeguarding the country’s borders against terrorist attacks.

Bitter Kola and Ebola: What Nigerians must know - Health Minister

Talking about Dr. Maurice Iwu’s thesis regarding bitter kola and Ebola (Iwu said Kolanut could cure Ebola - based on research), Nigerian Health Minister Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu said the government is considering making laws to arrest people who make bogus claims to have a cure for Ebola, and said Nigeria needs to work with Dr. Iwu.
