An Italian woman who was overjoyed at finding a sizeable sum of cash in her home has been met with disappointment after she was told that the money is worth… nothing.
Claudia Moretti found 100 million lire ($70,000) worth of banknotes in a family safe and then took it to a bank.
She was told by Italy’s central bank that the money was worthless because the country had switched to spending Euros.
The bank told Ms. Moretti that the deadline for changing old money to Euros had elapsed since 2011 and as such her hefty find could not be claimed.
The call center worker is not taking no for an answer however and she is seeking legal advice to enable her recover the money, 51, 645.69 euros to be exact.
