The project will provide electricity and promote energy sufficiency in the continent.
“The lack of electricity is currently a major problem in Africa. A significant number of households in rural areas and even urban cities do not have access to electricity. This is a real obstacle to Africa’s Sustainable Development.” reads the website for the campaign.
”We are extremely pleased by the overwhelmingly positive response of government leaders to embrace a public-private partnership that aims to address access to power in sub-Saharan Africa. This initiative is given further validity and momentum based on the support of these nations and their executives and advisor,’ Akon disclosed in a statement.
The 40-year-old singer, who earlier went on a nine-country tour across Africa, has been meeting politicians in his native Senegal and other places including; Mali, Guinea, Gambia, Gabon and Burkina Faso to win their support for his campaign.
Akon had earlier told his fans on Twitter that his team is getting a great response from many of the leaders and that they are planning to keep up the momentum of the campaign.
