Steven Gerrard scored twice from the spot – and missed a chance to claim a hat-trick – as Liverpool produced a fine performance to defeat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford.
Brendan Rodgers’ men, who won the first leg at home 1-0 thanks to a Daniel Sturridge goal, were the better team from kick-off, pinning their hosts back with their pace and passing. It was therefore no surprise that they took the lead, after Rafael handled in the box and Mark Clattenburg pointed to the spot. Steven Gerrard stepped up and scored.
Suarez however ensured the Reds won 3-0, latching on to a deflected pass to curl the ball around David De Gea.
