A Grade 2 Area Court in Kado, Abuja, on Wednesday, sentenced a 28-year-old man, Isah Abdullahi, to four months imprisonment with hard labour, for theft.
Abdullahi, from Utako village in Abuja, was found guilty of stealing seven pairs of shoes from a mosque by the presiding Judge, Ahmed Ado, after he pleaded guilty to the
charge.
Simeon Ibrahim, the prosecutor, told the court that the theft had been reported at the Utako Police station by the Chief Imam of Utako Village Mosque, Abdulrazak Abdullahi.
The Chief Imam had reported that Isah stole the seven pairs of shoes belonging to worshippers, during the Isha’i prayer at the mosque, and that he was caught.
The prosecutor said the shoes had since been recovered from the convict after he confessed to stealing them.
Ado, after announcing his judgement, did not give the offender the option of a fine and said it was appalling that he (Abdullahi) would steal from a mosque.
Ado went on to say that a person who stole from a religious house was “heartless” and could do a lot worse given the chance.
