President Goodluck Jonathan has encouraged the Super Eagles to do the
country proud by winning the World Cup qualifier against the Ethiopian
team.
The Super Eagles are set to play against the Ethiopian Team on Sunday in Addis Ababa.
The President stopped at the stadium in Addis Ababa on his way from
the Extraordinary Summit of the Heads of Government of the African
Union, to give the boys a pep talk and encourage them before the match.
At the stadium, Jonathan shook hands with the players and exchanged
pleasantries and back slapped Daniel Amokachi the assistant coach.
In
a short pep speech to the team, the President noted that Nigeria has
been going to the World Cup for a long time, but this time it would be
different as the team would show the world that Nigeria has come of age.
“Surely you will make it; the spirit is there. I wish you success. It
is a determining match. Definitely we have been going to the World Cup,
but this year we are not just going to the world cup, we will make an
impact. The world will begin to know that we have arrived as a nation.
We give you all the encouragement required. Thank you for what you are
doing for us,” the President said.
The President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Aminu
Maigari, Jonathan for taking out time to encourage the players, stating
that he is the first President to do so twice in a row.
“I assure you that we will be able to deliver and we will deliver. We
will do our best. We have a good team. Goodluck Jonathan is the only
President who haa created time amidst his tight schedule to be with the
Super Eagles twice. This is the biggest motivation and we will make you
proud. We will be in Brazil,” he said.
