Tragedy occurred at the weekend in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government area of the state, when a bungalow situated at No. 6 Okerowo Street was razed by a wild inferno that gutted the building.
The fire that completely destroyed the building within some hours led to the death of one 81-year-old woman.
The fire was said to have occurred at about 10 pm on the fateful day.
DailyPost reports that the source of the inferno is yet known, even as residents are currently devastated over the incident.
Report says the deceased, identified as Mrs. Omogbanju Akinlami, was spotted holding a locally made lamp which she kept beside her bed before the incident occurred.
According a reliable source in the area, who spoke to DailyPost, one of the eldest child of the deceased had visited her in company of a little child and left the building few hours before the fire gutted the building.
He revealed further that a neighbour who lives opposite theaffected building where the octogenarian was living, was the first person to have sighted the fire and subsequently raised the alarm which
attracted people in the neighbourhood.

When our reporter arrived at the scene of the incident, smoke was still seen coming out of the house, while some youths were seen making frantic effort to quench the fire.
Similarly, some other good Samaritans were seen moving in and out of the house in order to remove some of the property of the deceased that were yet to be affect by the inferno.
Efforts made to speak with some of the relatives of the deceased who
were present at the scene of the incident however proved abortive as they declined to make comment.
Meanwhile, policemen from Enuowa Divisional Police Station in Ondo
town, led by a senior police officer were seen at the scene of the incident, providing security, apparently to prevent breakdown of law and order and to discourage undesirable elements from using the opportunity to carry out criminal activities.
