Arsenal
playmaker Mesut Ozil, has apologised to the club’s fans, after they
were beaten 2-0 by Bayern Munich on Wednesday, in the first leg of their
Champions League last-16 match.
The 25-year-old missed a crucial penalty in the first half, when the score was 0-0 and his confidence faded away thereafter.
“The next morning doesn’t feel better either. Sorry guys – it wasn’t
planned that way,” he wrote on his official Facebook page. “Outnumbered
it was really hard to win against this team.”
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, also admitted that Ozil’s zeal zapped
away, after his compatriot Manuel Neuer palmed away his spot kick.
“I think it affected Mesut. He was still shaking his head five or 10
minutes after that,” said Wenger. “It had a huge impact on his
performance. Confidence is your petrol in the team – it gives you the
desire to play.”
