SERENA WILLIAMS WINS 2013 US OPEN
It's no news that Serena Williams is once more becoming the queen of female tennis.Having won the French open earlier this year, she just rounded off the prestigious Us open where she emerged victorious over Belarusian Victoria azarenka.
Despite winning the opening set and even served twice for the match in the second set, at 5-4 and 6-5, she was unbelievably broken by the relentless Belarusian, forcing for a tie break which subsequently won by Azarenka at 6-8. Much to Williams' dismay, she threw her racket to the ground and appeared to be upset of the blustery winds that eventually affected her serve and shots and by not winning the match yet. In the deciding set, however, Williams proved that she was the better player as Azarenka started to collapse by creating horrifying unforced errors. Williams broke Azarenka's serve twice (including once on an Azarenka double fault), and Williams closed out the match that lasted for almost three hours at 7-5 6(6)-7(8) 6-1. By winning the title, Serena successfully defended her Us Open title and became the oldest women's US Open champion in the open Era, surpassing the previous record set by Australia's Margaret Court. She also received a $2.6m as prize money and an additional $1m check bonus for being the top women's player in the Us Open series making it $3.6m overall.
I heard a rumour the William sisters are Nigerians,
what do u think guys?
