Mikel Obi, Drogba, Yaya Toure make final shortlist for Glo/CAF Player of the Year

Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi, is the only Nigerian player left in the running, as the final three players for the Glo/CAF Player of the Year were unveiled today.
The current holder of the title, Yaya Toure and his Ivorian team-mate Didier Drogba, are the two others.
“The Ivorian pair of Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba make the final three for a second successive year and will be joined by John Obi Mikel of Nigeria. The winner will be announced on the 9th of January 2014 at the GLO-CAF Awards Gala to be held in Lagos Nigeria,” Caf announced on its official website on the eve of New Year’s Day.


In the category of African players based in Africa, Sunday Mba will slug it out with Egyptian duo, Ahmed Fathy and Mohamed Abou Trika for the prize.
“In the African Player of the year ( based in Africa) category the winner will be selected from Egyptians Ahmed Fathy and Mohamed Abou Trika with Nigerian Sunday Mba also in contention. The winner will also be announced at the Awards Gala in Lagos on the same night,” Caf said in the statement.
